Y I N T E A M

Ever since my childhood, classical and modern ballet have been my passion. In my teenage years I became interested in psychology and philosophy and since then I have become more engaged in self-development, increasing my awareness and enjoying the magic of the present moment. After studying Journalism and, in part Social Therapy, I worked for a few years as a therapist in various institutions in Holland. Unsatisfied with the line and method of work, I decided to look for a different and more holistic way of working with people.

I started practicing yoga seriously in 2006 in Barcelona and was greatly inspired by its potential for healing at a physical, emotional and spiritual level. I saw possibilities of combining my interests, therapeutic and dance experiences with yoga classes. After a Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) of 200 hours Yoga Alliance (YA) in August 2006, I started teaching a mix of Hatha, Vinyasa and Vini Yoga (Yang Yoga) in Barcelona. At the end of 2006 I discovered Yin Yoga and since then this has been my primary passion and specialization. I started teaching Yin Yoga classes in 2007.

I guide my classes in a warm, clear and hopefully humorous way, with compassion in adapting the practice where necessary to your specific needs. I encourage you to experience, observe and become aware of your bodily sensations, emotions, quality of breath, intuition, thoughts and habitual patterns. My goal is to stimulate you to discover, to strengthen, to trust, to accept and to be happy with yourself the just the way you are.

At the moment I teach mainly Yin Yoga classes, but also offer more dynamic styles like Hatha/VinyasaViniPower(Yang Yoga). In addition I regularly organize workshops on: anatomy, Chinese Medicine combined with Yin Yoga & Reiki (with Jordi Ibern) and technique improvement for more dynamic yoga styles. I also offer Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Trainings. Since 2009 I organize, together with Jordi Ibern and/or other teachers, various therapeuticretreats. The classes, workshops, teacher trainings and retreats are offered in the Netherlands, Spain, Finland and France. I teach in Spanish, English or Dutch (my Mother tongue).

I believe in continual education and improvement. I have completed several workshops and Yin Yoga Teacher Trainings (350hYA) with  Paul Grilley, several workshops with Sarah Powers, a Vini Yoga immersion with T.K.V. Desikachar in India and a couple of Anusara Yoga immersions. I have also studied other styles of Yoga including Yoga Dinámico and Iyengar. I am a regular practitioner of Vipassana meditation.

I feel honored and privileged to share the Yoga knowledge that has been passed on to me, with you.

Namaste
[nah-mas-tay] Sanskrit;
I honor the light, love, beauty, truth and kindness within you,
because it is also within me.
In sharing these things,
there is no distance and no difference between us,
we are the same, we are one.

I have always been fascinated by life and take the time and space to develop my awareness.

I obtained a degree in therapeutic pedagogy and have worked in the field of psychology and child psychiatry for 10 years in Hospital San Juan de Dios in Barcelona.

In yoga I found inspiration and in 2008 I trained to become a teacher of Hata Vinyasa Yoga in Mandiram Center, Barcelona.
Since then I have continued learning and training with different teachers and styles including Hata, Vinyasa, Dharma Mittra, and Yoga Iyengar in India and Europe.
In 2010 I discovered Yin Yoga and my understanding of anatomy and yoga as a whole took to new level.
After this I focused on becoming a Yin Yoga teacher under the training of Jose de Groot (Barcelona, 2011- Uttrecht 2014), Sara Powers (Holland, 2012)  and Paul and Suzee Grilley (Thailand, 2013) and Biff Mithoefer (Barcelona, 2013).

Communication has been a passion in my life from a very early age. As a young child in London, gymnastics provided a form of self-expression through movement and body awareness; one still very present in my life. After finishing my university degree in French and Spanish and certifying as a Teacher of English abroad, I left the UK with another ‘passport’ to explore and discover new places, cultures and people.

Settled in Spain since 1995 I have worked as an English teacher for much longer, yet life has also allowed me to change professions several times, and among other jobs I have been an interpreter, conference organizer and international radio journalist for Round the World Yacht races and international event communication teams.
In 2008 Yoga became a permanent part of my life after the practice made a strong impact on me during a business trip to Singapore. Shortly afterwards I completed my first Teacher Training in Thailand, an experience that completely changed the direction of my life. With a new perspective and some initial teachings of Yoga I moved to Barcelona to deepen my practice and knowledge and began to explore Vinyassa, Ashtanga, Rocket and my real passion: Yin Yoga.

With a constant desire to learn and study, I regularly attend trainings and workshops both in Spain and abroad (Jose de Groot, Paul and Suzee Grilley, Sarah and Ty Powers, Donna Farhi, Uma and Nirlipta Dinsmore-Tuli, Sri Dharma Mittra, Doug Keller, David Swenson). Assisting Gabrielle Scanlon on the Hot Yoga Doctor Teacher Training (2011) was of great value and an unforgettable experience.
Yin Yoga has revealed a wonderful new panorama of insights and teachings. It is a kind of Dharma; a need to reach out and share a path towards self-discovery, inner balance, peace and harmony so that we might in turn be able to offer the same to  everyone in our lives.

I teach several Yin Yoga classes a week, and workshops in Barcelona and abroad, encouraging the balance of our two distinct and complementary yin and yang energies. My partner Xavier and I also organize retreats in different locations throughout Spain, where we combine the teaching of Californian Massage with yoga, in both English and Spanish.

Teaching yoga allows a natural fusion of communication on a physical, mental and emotional level, and enables me to offer my little contribution with enthusiasm, energy and love. Every personal practice, class shared, breath taken and word offered is learning and sharing each new experience with others is a continuous source of fascination.
